If you are booking a minicab to Alexandra Palace Theatre, specify the Theatre and East Court. A general “Ally Pally” destination is incomplete: the site hosts different activities, and the entrance for a main-hall event is not the theatre entrance. That distinction matters when deciding where to arrive and where to meet afterwards.

This MiniCabFinder guide is for theatre performances and matinees. For a concert group using the main halls, see the separate stadium and arena group guide. You can request the wider journey through our London minicab page, with admission booked directly through your ticket provider.

Which entrance is used for the Theatre?

Alexandra Palace's official FAQs, checked on 29 October 2026, place the Theatre entrance at East Court, on the east side of the building. They distinguish this from Palm Court on the west side, normally used for Great Hall and West Hall events unless the event gives different instructions.

Write “Alexandra Palace Theatre, East Court” in the destination notes. Include the performance name and follow any updated instructions from the venue. A driver seeing only the palace name cannot tell whether your ticket is for the theatre, a main-hall show or another activity.

For collection, specify the Theatre again rather than assuming the return booking inherits every detail. The best meeting arrangement is one understood by the whole party and confirmed as suitable for a vehicle, not simply the entrance closest to a map label.

Can a car stop directly outside the entrance?

Ask the venue about the current vehicle arrangement for your performance and agree the meeting point with the transport provider. An admission entrance does not establish unrestricted vehicle access. Site staff and temporary traffic arrangements can affect where a car is permitted to stop.

The palace's parking information explains that car park operation can differ on event days. Check that page when planning, especially if you are relying on a particular entrance being open. Avoid copying a normal-day arrangement into a busy event itinerary without checking it.

If your party needs to minimise walking, raise that before requesting a pickup time. Explain the requirement in practical terms rather than simply writing “accessible”. The provider needs to understand the vehicle and meeting needs, while the venue can advise on the route into the Theatre.

How do you plan a matinee arrival?

Check the performance start, the admission instructions and whether you intend to eat first. These are separate timings. A lunchtime arrival at the palace is not the same as being ready at your seat, particularly if your group has not agreed where to meet.

Choose one shared arrival plan. For example, if relatives travel from different addresses, decide whether to collect everyone first or meet at East Court. The first option needs an agreed sequence of vehicle stops; the second needs clear instructions for anyone arriving independently.

Keep the event ticket and transfer confirmation accessible on your phone. If the person who booked is not travelling, pass the relevant details to a passenger who is. A driver trying to contact an organiser elsewhere cannot resolve a meeting problem as quickly as someone standing with the group.

Is public transport an alternative?

The palace's accessibility information identifies the W3 bus as serving the venue via connections including Finsbury Park. Check the current journey and access arrangements for the date you travel rather than relying on a remembered timetable.

Compare the complete route from your home or hotel. Public transport may suit a party with a convenient connection and little to carry. A minicab may be more useful where several changes, equipment or the return destination make that route awkward. Include walking and waiting when comparing the options.

You can use public transport outward and request a car home, but arrange the return meeting point before entering the Theatre. Knowing where to go after the performance is more useful than making the first transport decision in the exit crowd.

How should you choose the return time?

Check the expected running time with the event information, including any interval. Then allow time to leave your seats, gather coats and reach the agreed vehicle point. Do not make the advertised finish and pickup time identical unless the practical exit time has been considered.

Ask what happens if the performance runs later or you need to amend collection. Waiting and changes should be understood before you travel. If you learn about a changed finish time during the visit, pass it on early rather than leaving the driver to discover it at collection.

Keep one passenger responsible for contact and share the meeting instructions with everyone. When the group separates briefly, agree a place to regroup before approaching the car. A clear passenger count at departure also helps ensure nobody has walked towards a different entrance by mistake.

What should families or groups tell us?

Provide the total passengers, including children, and describe any pushchair, walking aid or bags. Request a child seat or particular vehicle arrangement in advance and confirm availability. A family theatre outing may have less luggage than an airport trip, but folded equipment still needs suitable space.

If anyone needs a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, explain whether they remain in the chair during travel and supply the information requested to establish suitability. Our accessible vehicle guide covers those questions. A venue's access facilities and the vehicle's facilities are separate arrangements.

For a group leaving for several addresses, supply the destination list before requesting the estimate. Decide who goes to each stop and which person can approve changes. This is more useful than asking for a vehicle to “take everyone home” without the route being defined.

Can you include an airport journey?

For visitors staying in London, use the actual hotel address as the theatre pickup or return destination. If travelling directly from Heathrow or Stansted, leave a generous, realistic gap between the flight arrival and the performance. Airport processing and road traffic make a precise connection uncertain.

Check luggage arrangements with the venue before attempting a direct airport-to-theatre trip. Do not assume cases can stay in a transfer vehicle during the show. A hotel-first itinerary may be simpler, especially if it also gives you somewhere to leave luggage and recover from the flight.

Check that your confirmation includes East Court, the date, both journey times and the correct destination addresses. Prices are estimates and may vary; confirm the final itinerary, waiting terms and any applicable parking charges. Keep the venue's latest instructions alongside the transport confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Which entrance is Alexandra Palace Theatre? A: The venue identifies the Theatre entrance as East Court, on the east side of the building. Check your ticket for any updated event-specific instructions.

Q: Is the Theatre entrance the same as the Great Hall entrance? A: No. The venue normally directs Great Hall and West Hall audiences to Palm Court, while Theatre audiences use East Court.

Q: Can I request a minicab after a matinee? A: Yes. Supply the expected finish and allow time to leave the Theatre and reach the agreed collection point. Confirm availability and waiting terms.

Q: Can a minicab collect at East Court itself? A: Confirm the permitted vehicle meeting point for your event. East Court identifies the theatre entrance but does not guarantee stopping or waiting access directly outside it.

Q: What if our theatre group needs several drop-offs? A: Provide all addresses and the intended passenger split before requesting the estimate, so the route and vehicle requirements can be confirmed.

Request an Alexandra Palace Theatre transfer estimate and include “Theatre, East Court” in the notes.
