Short answer: yes, you can pre-book a minicab from Walthamstow, Leyton or Leytonstone to any London airport. Stansted is the closest of the big airports for most of E17, and London City is the nearest for E10 and E11.

This guide covers Walthamstow, Leyton and Leytonstone across E17, E10 and E11. Fares on our site are estimates confirmed when we accept your booking.

The rail picture

  • Walthamstow Central is the northern terminus of the Victoria line, and also has Overground services. It is a good link into central London, but not to an airport.
  • Leyton and Leytonstone are on the Central line, which reaches Stratford and the City. Leytonstone also has an Overground station.
  • Stratford is the nearest big interchange for the Elizabeth line, DLR and national rail.

An airport trip by rail from here usually means two or three legs, with luggage on each. Our Stansted guide compares the rail option with a car for that airport. If the Tube is down, airport transfers when the Tube is down is the plan B.

Pickups and local roads

  • Walthamstow Village and the High Street are busy at market times. Your driver may ask you to meet on a side street.
  • Hoe Street, Lea Bridge Road and Leyton High Road are bus-heavy, with restricted stopping in places.
  • Leytonstone High Road is a main route with limited stopping. Cameras and bus lanes apply.
  • Low-traffic neighbourhoods in Waltham Forest restrict through traffic on many residential streets. Give your exact address so your driver can plan the route.
  • The A406 North Circular and the A12 are the main roads out. Both back up at peak.

Airport by airport

Stansted is north via the North Circular and the M11, the most direct of the big airports from E17. See our Stansted guide.

London City is the closest overall for E10 and E11, south-east through Stratford. See the London City guide.

Heathrow is a long cross-London run, usually by the North Circular and the M4 or the A40. Pick the right terminal with which Heathrow terminal do I need.

Luton is north-west via the North Circular and M1 or the M25.

Gatwick is south of London via the M23. It is the longest of the usual runs, so allow a generous buffer.

Booking for an early flight

Pre-dawn departures are the first slots to fill. Book the night before; our early-morning airport transfer guide has the timing advice. For group trips with more than four passengers, see group minicab hire, and for bags see the luggage guide.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Which airport is closest to Walthamstow? A: Stansted is the closest of the large airports for most of E17, reached via the North Circular and the M11. London City is closer for E10 and E11.

Q: Can I book a minicab from Leytonstone to Heathrow? A: Yes. Give your full postcode and terminal when requesting an estimate; we confirm the fare when we accept your booking.

Q: Does the Victoria line go to the airport from Walthamstow? A: No. The Victoria line runs into central London. To reach an airport you would change onto another line or train, which means carrying your luggage between services.

Q: Why might my driver take a different route through Walthamstow? A: Low-traffic neighbourhood restrictions mean some residential streets are closed to through traffic. Your driver plans around them, so the route can differ from a map's first suggestion.

Q: How early should I book a minicab to Stansted from E17? A: For a morning flight, book the night before. Earlier is better for school holidays and bank holiday weekends.

Q: Can I take a group of five to an airport from Leyton? A: Not in a standard four-passenger car. Book a minibus or split into two cars; see our group minicab guide.
