Short answer: yes, you can book a minicab from Hackney, Dalston, Stoke Newington or Clapton to any London airport. Most of this part of north-east London has no Underground station, so a pre-booked car is often the simplest way to start a flight with luggage.
This guide covers Hackney, Dalston, Stoke Newington, Clapton and Homerton across E8, E5, E9 and N16. Fares on our site are estimates confirmed when we accept your booking.
No Tube, so what are the options?
Hackney is unusual for inner London: the borough has no Underground station of its own. Local rail is the Overground, with stations at Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, Dalston Kingsland, Dalston Junction, Clapton and Stoke Newington.
- Stoke Newington has a station on the Overground, not the Tube.
- Manor House (Piccadilly line) is the nearest Tube link for N16 and the northern end of Hackney. The Piccadilly line serves Heathrow, but it is a long ride with bags and you have to get to Manor House first.
- Liverpool Street is the usual interchange for the Stansted Express and the Elizabeth line, reached from Hackney by Overground or bus.
Any airport trip by public transport from here means at least one change with your luggage. For the full comparison with the main rail options, see our Elizabeth line versus minicab guide and Heathrow Express versus a car.
Pickups: where a driver can actually stop
- Kingsland Road and Stoke Newington Church Street are busy, with bus lanes and restricted stopping. Your driver may ask you to meet on a nearby side street.
- Broadway Market, Mare Street and Dalston Lane are crowded at weekends and market times. Allow extra minutes.
- Converted warehouses and new blocks around Hackney Wick, Homerton and Dalston often have several entrances. Give the block name and entrance, not just a postcode.
- Low-traffic neighbourhoods in parts of Hackney restrict through traffic with cameras or bollards, so the route to your door can differ from a map's first suggestion. Your driver will plan around them.
Airport by airport
Stansted is the natural choice for a north-east London departure. The route heads north on the A10 or via the North Circular and onto the M11. See our Stansted guide for terminal and drop-off details.
London City is the closest airport to E8 and E9, east through Stratford or the Blackwall Tunnel approaches. Our London City guide covers the terminal.
Heathrow is a cross-London run, west by the A40 corridor or the North Circular and M4 depending on traffic. Check your terminal first with which Heathrow terminal do I need.
Gatwick is south by the M23. It is the longest of the usual choices from Hackney, so allow a generous buffer.
Luton is north-west via the North Circular and the M1. See the Luton guide.
Early flights and late arrivals
The first Stansted and Heathrow departures leave long before the Overground is useful. Book the night before for a pre-dawn pickup; our early-morning airport transfer guide explains the timing. If you land late, late-night arrivals covers what to arrange before you fly.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Is there a Tube station in Hackney? A: No. The borough of Hackney has no Underground station. Local rail is the Overground, and the nearest Tube stations are just outside, such as Manor House on the Piccadilly line.
Q: Which airport is best from Dalston or Stoke Newington? A: Stansted or London City are the closest for most people in E8, E5 and N16. Heathrow and Gatwick are longer cross-London runs, so book a larger time buffer.
Q: Can I book a minicab from Hackney to Heathrow? A: Yes. Give your full postcode and terminal when you request an estimate, and we confirm the fare when we accept the booking.
Q: Can a minicab pick me up on Kingsland Road? A: Often only from a nearby side street, because of bus lanes and stopping restrictions. Your driver will tell you the closest safe place to stop.
Q: How far in advance should I book an early-morning airport transfer from Hackney? A: The night before is sensible for a pre-dawn flight, as early slots fill first. Earlier is better for school holidays and bank holiday weekends.
Q: Do I need to give the entrance for a Hackney Wick or Homerton address? A: Yes, if the building has more than one. A block name and entrance saves the driver time and avoids a missed pickup.
