Minicabs in Edinburgh
Edinburgh’s stone-built centre, split between the Old Town and the Georgian New Town, is compact but hilly and often closed to traffic during major events — so a licensed minicab is frequently the easiest way to reach the Castle end of town, Waverley or the suburbs. MiniCabFinder helps you compare an estimated fare before booking.
The city’s calendar shapes minicab demand like nowhere else: the August Festival and Fringe, Hogmanay and the rugby at Murrayfield all create huge peaks. Edinburgh Airport sits to the west, reachable by tram but also a common minicab run for travellers with luggage or early flights.
Edinburgh licenses its taxis and private-hire cars through the City of Edinburgh Council under Scottish rules, with a strong metered black-cab presence. MiniCabFinder confirms your booking directly for your pickup.

Edinburgh minicab FAQs
How far is Edinburgh Airport from the city centre by minicab?
It’s roughly 8 miles west, typically 20–30 minutes off-peak. The tram is an alternative, but many travellers prefer a door-to-door minicab with luggage or an early flight.
Are Edinburgh minicabs harder to get during the Festival or Hogmanay?
Yes — August’s Festival and Fringe and the Hogmanay celebrations create big demand peaks and road closures. Booking ahead and comparing an estimate first is strongly advised.
Can minicabs reach the Old Town during events?
Parts of the Old Town close to traffic during major events, so drop-offs may be at the nearest open street. We will know the best access point on the day.
